Norovirus outbreak in old people's home - Top Stories - ZUG4YOU.CH - THE ENGLISH WEBSITE FOR EXPATS IN ZUG

Around a week ago, there was an outbreak of gastroenteritis in the Haus Carmel old people home in Menzingen which was eventually found to be due to contamination by the norovirus. Staff took all the necessary precautions and by the weekend, the virus was under control and all those affected had been treated and were no longer contagious.

Rolf Tobler, who is head of the home, has taken it off alert status, re-established visiting hours for the inhabitants and reopened the cafeteria

The Norovirusis a ribonucleic acid virus which causes almost all non-bacterial outbreaks of gastroenteritis and around 50% of food-related outbreaks gastroenteritis. It affects people of all ages and is transmitted by faecally-contaminated food or water, person-to-person contact or contamination of surfaces.
