Hepatitis A - (infection)
(Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease)
Found: Primary source is feces contaminated water and from feces of infected food handlers. Ready to eat foods and shellfish from contaminated water.
Transmission – From infected food handlers practicing poor personal hygiene and then handling salads, sandwiches. Also other ready-to-eat foods or raw shellfish (especially raw oysters) that have come in contact with sewage contaminated water.
Symptoms: Mild fever, weakness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain & jaundice (appears later). Development of symptoms is approximately 28 days.
