Managers this week appealed for public help in response to a record breaking busy period which saw more than 700 people attend A&E at the Northern General over two days and a 43% increase in emergency admissions for orthopaedic patients.
Trust deputy chief operating officer Richard Parker said: “A culmination of factors, including the cold weather and an increase in diarrhoea and sickness and flu bugs in the community has meant we have been busier than usual.
