Out of the 378 notifications for pathogenic micro-organisms since early 2015 in the RASFF [Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed], 15 (3,96%) are concerning foodborne viruses.

The top 5 pathogens 258 (68%) Salmonella, 54 (14%) Listeria, 33 (8%) Escherichia coli, 15 (4%) Viruses, 6 (1,50%) Campylobacter account for a total of almost 96% of all the notifications. Bacillus (5), Staphylococcus (3) and Clostridium (2) complete the list.
Norovirus, top foodborne virus
Norovirus is the only viral pathogen detected in the 15 notificationsboth in fruits and shellfish. Fruits at mid-year represent 33% of the food, shellfish accounting for 67%.
Fruits contaminated by Norovirus
Strawberries, Blueberries and Raspberries are the three different fruits in which were found the foodborne norovirus.
Impacted countries for foodborne viruses
Denmark, Portugal, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Chile, Germany, France, Sweden, Serbia, Vietnam, Egypt, Austria, Monaco, Luxembourg are the various countries potentially impacted by Norovirus.
